It has been a long time since I have provided an update post on the blog, and you have potentially noticed that my posts are less frequent, so I thought it was time I updated you all!
As many of you are likely aware, I am a full time online lecturer in psychology, which definitely keeps me busy. I teach 8 courses a year, and have a lot of students (often 300 per course). This is the predominant reason that I have been posting less blogs, I just have less time, and I am prioritising life more than I did during my PhD!
Aside from teaching, research has been busy! Particularly as I am a teaching academic, a lot of my research has to occur in addition to the full time load. I have two first author publications so far for 2021, which is nice after having none during 2020. I currently also have four first author publications submitted/under review! I am so proud of this, and although the hard work on these are far from over, it feels nice having them submitted.
One of my recent publications was also discussed in a recent newspaper article which has resulted in three radio interviews so far.
I am in the early stages of starting a new project that I will run, in the early stages of a commentary manuscript I will co-author, and I am also assisting a colleague on two projects that he is first author on.
Aside from this, I have 6 honours students for 2021, which is huge- but thankfully I am co-supervising in a research team meaning there are three academics to share the load.
I recently became an academic integrity officer for my University also, meaning that I review potential AI cases!
So yeah, you could say that academia is busy, but it is enjoyable, and I currently feel balanced in terms of work and life.
