**In Collaboration**
Working from home doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, it’s very easy for you to get in a solid routine while also boosting your productivity overall.
Get Started as Early as you Can
When you work in an office, you will have the morning commute to wake you up and have you feeling ready for the day ahead. When you work from home however, it can be difficult for you to transition from your bed right to the computer. If you want to help yourself here, then it helps to get started as soon as you can. This will help you to maintain your focus and it will also help you to get in a good routine. If you make breakfast first, have a coffee and then do the washing up, you’ll be starting later, or you may even try and delay without realising it.
Pretend You’re Working in an Office
Sometimes it helps to get ready as if you were working in an office. This can help you to be more productive and it can also help you to prepare for the day ahead. So when you go to bed, make sure that you set your alarm. In the morning, put some nice clothes on and your best perfume too. It also helps to invest in some software that will help you to organise your work for the day, just like you’d have in the office.
Structure your Day
When you work from home, you’ll be your own personal manager. You don’t have a boss peering over your shoulder, and you don’t have to finish at a certain time either. This can be great, but it can also be detrimental to your productivity level. If you want to stay on schedule then you need to plan out what you’re going to do and when you’re going to do it. Calendars are great for this, and they can help you to maintain a high standard of productivity without having to worry about a thing.
Watch Your Bills
The problem with working from home is that you’ll be in the house, all day. You’ll be using more electricity and you’ll also be using more water too. This can be expensive to say the least, but there are ways for you to get around this. You might want to try and invest in some water tanks or even a smart meter. When you do, you can easily see how much energy you are using every day and you can also make the right changes along the way. If you want to take things to that next level, then it may be worth investing in an energy-efficient computer or laptop.
Have a Dedicated Workspace
Remember that just because you’re not working in an office, doesn’t mean that you can’t have an office. If you coop yourself up in your room all day then this won’t be doing your productivity levels any favours. If you want to help yourself here, then you need to try and set up your own dedicated workspace. This could involve having a desk in a specific room or having a surface for your laptop. When you have decided where you want your space to be, you then need to focus on getting everything you need to do your job. This could involve setting up a printer that is always plugged in, next to your desk or it could even mean having a pot full of pens and pencils. It’s little things like this that can help you to maintain your concentration level and it can also help you to work more efficiently.
Don’t Stay at Home
If your home office just isn’t working for you or if you feel as though something needs to change then it may be worth looking into getting an office that is in the city. A lot of providers rent them out super cheap and this can help you to get more done in the day too. You may even be able to take advantage of local coffee shops and free WiFi. Remember that working from home is not for everyone, and that sometimes you do need to have that distinction between work and home.
Stop Using Social Media
Social media is designed so that you can browse quickly and on the go. The problem is that it also makes it very easy for you to get distracted from work. If you want to counteract this then you need to remove it from your browser shortcuts. You might also want to logout too, as this will make it harder for you to get distracted. Sure, this may seem extreme but if you are one of those people who continually find themselves on Facebook then you may want to look into this.
Commit to Doing More
Projects always take longer than you think they do. You’ll always get less done than you think, and this can really impact your productivity levels. If you want to help yourself here, then you need to try and put the effort in to make a to-do list. When you do, you also need to set deadlines. This will help you to stop messing around in the day and you may even find that you are able to focus on more too. Of course, if you want to help yourself even more then it’s a good idea to get everyone who you work with on the same system too. There are plenty of online to-do lists you can use and if you work collaboratively with other people from home then you may find that you can save yourself a small fortune by doing this.
So, working from home doesn’t need to be difficult and you would be surprised at how easy it is for you to be more productive in the day when you really put the work in. These changes should really help you to operate more efficiently and they’re great if you work from home or even remotely.
