If there is one thing that most homeowners are guilty of, it is wasting too much energy. This is not something we should simply accept, though. After all, when you waste energy, you are wasting money too. Do you just want to throw cash away needlessly? It’s unlikely! So, with that being said, read on to discover some signs that you are wasting too much energy in your home.
Your utility bills are expensive – This is the most obvious sign that you are wasting energy. If your utility bills are more expensive than your neighbours, you are clearly using too much energy, and needlessly so. Have you invested in a smart meter yet? If not, now is a good time to do so. These meters ensure efficient use of electricity, as they adapt to your needs, ensuring utilities aren’t used when you are not home. Moreover, if you have outdated appliances and furnaces, they are likely to be costing you a ton of money, so switching to an energy-efficient model comes highly advised.
You are still using incandescent light bulbs – If you are still using incandescent bulbs to light your home, you are definitely wasting energy. While LED light bulbs may cost a little bit more, they will last you much, much longer. They provide the same output while using a fraction of the energy that incandescent bulbs use.
You haven’t installed solar panels yet – A lot of homeowners are still under the assumption that solar panels cost a fortune and that they are only for the rich and famous. This could not be further from the truth. You can see more about solar panels and the prices online. Nevertheless, although an upfront fee is required, the amount of money you will save over the years is more than worth it.
You have ice dams – Last but not least, a final sign that you are wasting energy is in the form of ice dams. This indicates that energy is being lost from your home. So, what is an ice dam? This is an ice build-up along your roof’s edge, which is created when heat is lost from the living room and escapes into the attic, therefore, melting the snow on your roof. The bad news is that ice dams can cause water leaks, as well as guttering and roof damage, so you need to deal with them quickly and efficiently.
As you can see, there are a number of warning signs that you are using too much energy in your home. From allowing energy loss to using energy zapping appliances, there are many ways that we are all guilty of wasting energy. Take the advice that has been provided and you cannot only do your bit for the environment, but for your bank balance too.
