** In Collaboration** Students get a bit of a raw deal in society. They’re constantly the butt of jokes about being lazy and sleeping in until the afternoon. Anybody that’s been to university will tell you how false that picture is. There are, of course, some lazy students that don’t do much but most students actually work incredibly hard to […]
It has been a little while since I last wrote a PhD update (read the one from over 6 months ago here) so I thought it was about time I wrote another one. I also really enjoy writing PhD update blogposts as they let me reflect on what I’ve achieved (and also freak me out about how much I need […]
As I have been part of the scicomm community for two years now, I really wanted to celebrate what is so great about it. I thought what better way than getting some of my favourite scicomm influencers to say what they like about the community. Beyond.the.ivory.tower “I love being part of this scicomm community particularly because of the connections I’ve made with other passionate scientists” Lisaellenjones “I love the scicomm community for how supportive and inspiring everyone is, we acknowledge and celebrate each other’s successes and are there to help when things get tough!” Nina.draws.scientists “I love being a part of the science community on Instagram because of the scientific conversation it stimulates and the knowledge I learn from the dynamic people within it!” Someblondescientist “I love this community for the support! Everyone is so encouraging and supportive of one another, such a privilege to be a part of” Naomikohbelic “Being a part of the online science community provides me with a sense of belonging. I am constantly overwhelmed by the support, and grateful for all the friendships I’ve formed with fellow scientists from across the globe. Scientific research can be particularly isolating, but the online science community continuously motivates me to persevere” Science.sam “I love that we’ve been using social media to help make science more open access, build communities of support, and explore each others’ voices. It takes time to be online but it energizes me more than […]
One of my favourite things about having my own office space (aside from the wonderful people I share it with) is getting to decorate the pinboards. I actually share one pinboard with Tina, who I sit next too, and these are the recent additions.
**In Collaboration** After four or more years of college, the transition into the real world can come as a bit of a shock. Between your student loan repayments, navigating new living costs and a social life to keep up, you could soon find yourself experiencing money troubles post-college. To help you manage your finances and still enjoy your post-college experience, […]
If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen my post the other day about how it is officially a year until my PhD is due to be completed. Although hitting the year count down is stressful, as it feels that I have a minimum 47 years worth of work left, it has also given me motivation (& is […]
My good friend and fellow PhD student requested a blog post about how to start writing, as she is currently stuck. I have been struggling for blog post inspiration so I was happy for the suggestion. The hardest part of writing is probably starting to write. I feel like as PhD students we do everything else possible before we will […]
