This was the book that I needed to read a few weeks after Where the Crawdads Sing. If you have read my review of WTCS you would know that I absolutely loved that book and have struggled to get into any book since.
That was until I opened The Wife & The Widow. I know that a compliment for a book is “I would love to read that book for the first time again”. Well I have a different compliment for this book as it is the first time in a long time, I want to read a book again. I want to pick up on all the clues that I missed the first time. The twist in this book is impressive. It is simple and doesn’t necessarily jump out at you, rather it creeps up on you slowly.
You know that a twist is coming but you’re scrambling to figure it out before it is revealed. A masterpiece of writing. The premise of the story is a murder mystery set on a small island off the coast of Australia. The story is told from two perspectives, the wife and the widow. I thoroughly enjoyed the characterisations and the rather uncomplicated plot. You don’t need intricate and flashy storylines if you can tell an interesting story simply.
