This is one of the best books I have read in a long time, actually probably ever. I stumbled across this book in the bookshop and the blurb intrigued me. I hadn’t heard of the book or seen it recommended but I thought that I would give it a go and I am so glad that I did.
This book is one that I not only enjoyed but I truly believe that I needed to read. It is written by journalist Leigh Sales and is her quest to answer some of life’s biggest and most uncomfortable questions- in essence how do people who have gone through utterly horrible things continue? This book helped me in ways that I didn’t know I needed. It is not portrayed in an exaggerated way and is reasonably matter-of-fact in its storytelling approach. It touches on academic research and deep dives into the influence of the media, which is a research interest of mine.
It is genuine, inspiring, and interesting. I laughed and I cried. I reflected heavily on things that were discussed. I emphasised and related to the people in the book.
I truly recommend this book and hope that more people can be moved in the way that I was.
