Intro: Hi everyone, my name is Kerrie (Insta: kerrie_phdstudent) and I am a second-year PhD student in Developmental Science at North Dakota State University! I am originally from Michigan and my undergraduate degree was in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience. I study healthy eating and body image in adolescents, which is something I have been passionate about for many years! I am currently working on my master’s thesis which is a qualitative study about body challenges on social media (e.g., #KylieJennerlipchallenge) and how they make youth feel about their bodies. For my dissertation down the road, I aim to study body image in multiracial adolescents as that is my main research interest. Here is a typical Wednesday for me this semester – enjoy!
8:19 am: I wake up at 8 am and always have breakfast – I do not know how people skip breakfast! Peanut butter and honey waffles are my go-to.
9:04 am: I am in my 3-hour socioemotional development across the lifespan class. Our classes are heavily discussion based with some learning activities.
12:08 pm: This is my sad lunch that I eat while in my second class, which is a prep course for my qualifying exams. I am taking them this summer!
1:59 pm : Working on campus in our lab office while waiting for the biweekly lab meeting. I try to work on my thesis a little bit every day!
3:31 pm: Leaving campus for the day! When you go to school in the north you have to be totally bundled up!
4:08 pm: Getting some joyful movement in my day – I really like Yoga with Adriene. I also like pilates workouts with Blogilates.
7:33 pm: Some students and I went out to dinner downtown, which isn’t the most typical, but we try to get together every so often. I am also on the social events committee in my program and enjoy planning fun things to do!
8:31 pm: I like to watch TV to unwind (currently watching The Good Place).
10:16 pm: To get away from screens, I try to read a book before I go to bed. Right now, I am reading Bitter Orange.
