8:05 am – Starting the morning off with a home brewed soy latte paired with a bowl of banana cinnamon oats. Taking the time to steep coffee instead of using an instant pod means a waste free beverage!

10:30 am – About halfway through my hour long train ride into the city for class. Public transportation saves fuel and keeps me out of morning traffic.

12:10 pm – Walking through the University of Melbourne campus after lecture, snacking on blueberries and dried mangos I brought in a glass container from home.

1:20 pm- Stopped into a local bookstore to pick up a collection of Edgar Allan Poe’s works that was on sale. I also picked up a card to give to my boyfriend for our anniversary next week, made by a company that uses 100% recycled paper and dyes their cards with vegetable ink!

4:50 pm – Home and packing away my bulk purchases: dates, pasta, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, and dark chocolate. I bring reusable cloth bags to the bulk store and then transfer the food into glass jars for storage.

7:00 pm – Doing some meal planning for the week based on the fruits and veggies I bought yesterday. I make it my goal to eat as few processed foods as possible, preferring to stick to natural goodies.

8:00 pm – Dinner time! Tonight it’s leftover pumpkin black bean burgers, which I prepared yesterday from scratch, topped with lettuce, tomato, and smashed avocado all on top of a “bun” of grilled pineapple. Cooking your own food is one of the easiest ways to reduce the amount of waste you produce.

I hope you enjoyed a peak into Emily’s day! Don’t forget to check out her Instagram!
